It was a week ago yesterday the Portage Walk-in Clinic moved from its Royal Road North location to the new Portage Clinic facility on 9th Street Southeast.

Portage Clinic COO Chris Tompkins says a week in, it's so far, so good.

"All the doctors have to take their first turn here. So it's learning 'where is this thing', because they were at the old walk-in for so long, they knew exactly where all the test strips are, and everything like that. So as they come in and work their first day, they're learning where everything's located, and the patient flow. Patient flow is actually really good. The building wasn't built for the walk-in to be here, but the way it's built has helped patient flow work out quite well."

Tompkins says they haven't dealt with any negatives yet.

"The only comments we've been hearing are how nice a building it is. Fortunately, we haven't heard any complaints to date. I take no news as good news in that sort of a situation. We have some stuff to work out. We don't have a television here like we had at the old walk-in. Those sort of logistics we're going to figure out, but so far, nothing negative to date."

Tompkins says patients won't notice many changes in the new clinic, except that when they're busy, it's easy to bring in extra doctors to handle the load.
