The Portage la Prairie School Division Board heard from the youth councillor for the city of Portage la Prairie last night. Donovan Hillman's been involved with representation for youth on city council since last fall, and outlines his presentation.

Donovan Hillman"Tonight I came to the school board. I was here once before. I just gave kind of a wrap of how I represent the youth. I thanked them for all they've done in my time as youth councillor. I kind of broke down my presentation into five main categories: Attending council meetings, hosting open house, hosting some city events, attending numerous meetings, and attending special celebrations and the likes."

He adds they asked him what he plans to do after his graduation which takes place tonight at PCI, and shares what he said.

"I'm going to the U of M Asper School of Business as of the beginning of September."

Superintendent Hazen Barrett says he shared remarks to the board of what he thought of Hillman and his efforts in the city.

Hazen Barrett"I just wanted to compliment Donovan on the amount of time that he spends representing youth in the city, and contributing to things that make sense for our students and our kids everywhere in this city, representing them to council; and the conversations that we've had within the school division with him, and the number of events that he's planned. It's pretty amazing when you think about it, that this young man is still a high school student. And here are the things that he's organizing, trying to make things better for other people his age. And too often I hear comments about, 'Kids these days.' I don't think there's ever been a generation that didn't utter that phrase. And in my opinion I see kids these days, and I see kids like him. And it gives me a lot of hope, because I really do think they are more sophisticated, and much more in tune with what's going on than probably what I was at that age. And if they're not, I certainly hope so. I've just enjoyed working with him."
