Two PCI Students gave a presentation about their spring break trips through the school at last night's Portage la Prairie School Board meeting.

Shae Carriere went first, giving highlights from this year's trip to France.

"We got to see northern France, we got to experience Paris during the rush hour. We went into the metro, we took the Bullet Train across the entire country. We got to go see Spain and experience a bit of Spanish culture."

Carriere says it was a real shock to see all the different war memorials, and grave sites.

"I think everyone has come back with a different perspective on the war, because you learn about it in school but you never actually get to see those places and see how huge the cemeteries were and how many men had given their lives I think really touched everyone in a personal way."

Morgan Van Deynze was part of PCI's 2016 Thailand trip, and says one of the biggest things she took away was how different the culture was.

"It's a totally different culture than ours, you can't even imagine. The people there are so friendly, and they're so eager to share their culture with you, and they really make sure you get the most out of everything and you get to learn a lot about them."

Van Deynze lists a couple of her favourite moments from the trip.

"I definitely loved being to the beach and snorkeling there. The elephant park was really neat, because they take really good care of the animals there so there isn't any worries about anything there. You get to interact with the elephants and they have you touching them and talking to them. So that was good."

School Board Trustee Rod Brownlee feels these trips are great for the students.

"Is it going to be an education experience, and when these girls presented, you know it was an educational experience. Not just educational, but it was fun too for them, but the education part of it is great. I had a grandson go on the France one this time too, and he came back just full of knowledge -- especially about Dieppe -- and things that he wouldn't have known about. I was really impressed."
