Santa Claus will be rolling through Portage la Prairie tonight with the Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie Santa Parade of Lights.

Rotary President Cathie McFarlane says they'd like everyone who plans to enter a float or walk in the parade to be at the west-end Co-op for 6 p.m. She says brown donation bags were mailed out a short while ago, and they will be accepted along the parade route.

"Bring those to the parade with non-perishable goods, you can even put toys in them, and give them to the folks at the beginning of the parade and they'll put it in the Salvation Army van," says McFarlane. "There are a lot of walkers for Rotary and Salvation Army that will be walking along with the parade, and they'll come into the crowd and pick up your bag from you."

McFarlane explains how to get the bags into the hands of Rotary volunteers.

"We have these yellow and blue Santa hats that all the Rotary volunteers will be wearing, and we'll have safety vests on with Rotary on the back. They will take your bags and be marshalling the parade, they'll be working with Preston Meier at the front of the parade to direct people onto Saskatchewan Avenue."

The parade is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
