After the tornado storm on July 20th, several residential properties within the RM of Portage la Prairie suffered quite a bit of damage that still remains. Deputy Reeve Roy Tufford explains the situation.

Roy Tufford"There were individuals that had a lot of damage and looking for DFA (Disaster Financial Assistance) to help them clean up the downed trees. And the RM experienced a lot of roads that had trees down over them, and we had to push trees aside to open up the roads. They're still laying on the right of way. We had applied to get DFA to help us to cover the cost to get that all cleaned up."

Tufford notes explains why residents are now appealing to the RM.

"I don't know what the result of the individual requests are -- whether they've been denied or not. I expect they have, because our request was denied by DFA. That's not something that DFA considers to be coverable under their program. So, we've already hired a contractor, and the RM will have to cover the cost to get that cleaned up. It's underway right now."
