It's the final long weekend of the summer, and lovers of the outdoors are flocking to local campgrounds. Ofty's Riverside Campground Co-owner Marlene Oftedal says it's going to be an exciting weekend, noting they're at capacity for the Labour Day long weekend. She notes the summer's final long weekend has always been a busy time for the camping industry, and they help their campers celebrate the end of the season with a few different activities starting tomorrow, when they decide to start Hallowe'en a little early.

"For Saturday we have pre-Hallowe'en trick or treat hour for those 11 and under. They usually enjoy it because by the time Hallowe'en comes around it's usually cold, whereas here it's warm and they don't have to have coats on. We also have our usual dance that's for guests or people camping here. We have that in the evening. It's also Hallowe'en-themed."

She notes they also host an end-of-season yard sale at the campsite. She says it's not unusual for the first and last weekends of the summer to be quite busy, as campers prepare to return to the daily grind, and school starts up once again. She says having the campground at capacity this weekend really caps off a great summer for those at Ofty's.

"We have actually had more campers coming through the campground than we normally do, and that's despite the rain we've been getting."

While it's likely the last weekend for many campers, Oftedal says it's not uncommon for season residents and overnight visitors continue to come to the campground until they close at the end of the month.
