The Portage Wildlife Club's holding a Rim Fire Shoot contest at noon today.

President Rod Gladue outlines the event.

"This Saturday, May 7th, we're having a rim fire shoot out at the Young Husband's Lodge, which is part of the Delta Marsh. It's a little competition, but it's more fun than anything. And for the kids that are under 12 that don't have their safety course, we'll have a BB and pellet gun shoot as well. It's just shooting targets. Targets have numbers on it. And the highest score wins."

He explains Rim Fire Shooting.

"Rim fire is for 22's. So, it's just where the firing pin shoots and it hits the shell on the rim of the bullet of the cartridge, and it's not a centre fire where your large calibre rifles shoot off the centre. It's a small calibre. It's cheaper to shoot. You don't mind going out and shooting a box of those shells. Your shoulder's not going to be sore, and it's not going to break your bank."

Gladue notes while registration is required for participants, observers can attend free of charge and lend a hand.

"Registration fee is $20, and that includes a lunch. There'll be French fries and hot dogs. And that gets you to partake in the shoot, youth or adult. Pellet gun and BB shoot for the youngsters will have no charge. And then we'll have a few prizes. And it should be a fun day. Registrations starts at 11, and we hope to be going by noon or shortly after. And it should run for probably the afternoon. They will register out there at the Young Husband's Lodge. If there are any questions before that, you can contact me."

Registration takes place at the Young Husband's Lodge. Gladue's contact number is (204) 595-8273.
