The annual Defenders Travis Halmrast Memorial Ride for the Soldier On Program will be journeying to Portage La Prairie this weekend.

The ride starts at Headingly Sports and ends at Enns Brothers Portage where a bbq will be held. All money raised will go to the soldier on program which supports soldiers with injuries and mental health issues. Vice President of the Defenders 19th Chapter Laurie Ringland explains the name change in honour of Travis Halmrast.

"He use to be a member of the Defenders and a couple years back unfortunely he took his life, he suffered from PTSD."

Ringland comments on the money raised in support of the ride.

"Last year we raised a little over two thousand dollars for it and the year before it was over five thousand for it. This year promises to be well over the two thousand mark right now. "

If you want to meet the riders and donate, the bbq is at Enns Brothers tomorrow.
