Every year, Southern Health-Santé Sud takes the opportunity to acknowledge the valuable service provided by our many volunteers in communities across the region.

On April 13th, a Volunteer Appreciation Tea was held in Portage la Prairie to recognize the caring volunteers from Portage District General Hospital, Douglas Campbell Lodge, Lions Prairie Manor, and Public Health-Healthy Living.

This year, the theme for National Volunteer Week is "Volunteers are the roots of strong communities", representing how Canada’s volunteers are intertwined into virtually every aspect of an all-encompassing society. Similar to how a tree relies on its roots to grow, communities rely on volunteers to yield the necessary nutrients needed for the community to collectively rally into action and find innovative ways to grow together.

As can be seen in Portage la Prairie, our volunteers reach out and give back to their communities by volunteering in our facilities and programs. We are fortunate to have over 200 volunteers, together working with our staff in so many different ways to make our clients’ lives a little easier, a little brighter.

Marianne Woods brought greetings on behalf of Southern Health-Santé Sud, along with Donnovan Hillman, on behalf of the City of Portage la Prairie, and Corrine Pratt, Recreation Manager for Lions Prairie Manor and Douglas Campbell Lodge. The 105 volunteer guests were treated to a fun-filled afternoon with delectable delights, entertainment by Leta Maksymyk, and a wonderful array of prizes.

"A huge thank you to all volunteers – we truly appreciate your ongoing generosity to give your time and support to help make a difference in the lives of so many," shared Marianne Woods.
