The Family Resource Centre in Portage la Prairie's offering its clients some help on handling money, starting today.

Program Coordinator Allison Ritchie say explains how it came about.

"We were approached by Anita Janzen-Gemmel (of BDO Dunwoody) to see if we would be interested in her, and her colleague Jessica Stewart, to come in and put on a workshop for us. And I think everyone needs a little help when it comes to figuring how to handle their money, so they approached us and asked us it would be willing to put on this workshop at our centre."

Summer Program Coordinator Katie Unruh feels there are a couple of benefits.

Katy Unruh"Even if you feel like you're doing a good job, a fresh perspective is always great -- you might pick up a few new tips and tricks. And this is really good for the Family Resource Centre because with this collaboration, the two organizations get to know each other better, and it might open up opportunities for collaboration in the future, or even with other organizations. And then we provide more resources for our families, and that's our ultimate goal."

The first workshop was this morning, focusing on improving financial management. The next will be August 10th, discussing the goals and challenges of raising money-smart kids.
