The world-renowned RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Portage la Prairie and area this summer. Community Foudation of Portage and District Executive Director Mary Lynn Moffat says it's been a while since Portage last hosted one.

File photo"It's been 16 years since Portage la Prairie had the Musical Ride. So, we're really excited to be able to host it and partner with Southport and the Portage Ex to make sure it happens. It's such a spectacular event. If anyone has not seen it they really need to come out. It's such a tradition for the RCMP."

She says, "The Musical Ride is coming into Portage on July 26th for two shows at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. And it will be in Austin on the 27th at 7:00 p.m. which is the evening prior to the start of the Threshermen's Reunion. We are going to be indoors for the Portage show, at the PCU Centre, which is really wonderful because it takes out that question, 'If it's going to rain do we go ahead?' And we have no options. It's wonderful to be able to be indoors for this one. There'll be 32 horses and riders that are doing drills and intricate procedures choreographed to music. And just the black horses with the red surge on the riders -- it's very, very appealing."

Moffat outlines ticket prices.

"Tickets for the event for all three shows are $10 for adults. $5 for youth 6 to 12 years old. Five and under is free. The same is for Austin. So, all three shows are running with the same tickets prices. And the tickets will be available beginning in June. And they're available at the PCU Centre, the CFPD office, the Fair Board office, Southport office and the Manitoba Agricultural Museum office."

She adds, "It's fabulous for Central Plains. The Agricultural Museum put their application into the RCMP. They were successful in getting a Ride there. We were successful for Portage. And we wanted to really let people know the opportunities they had to see the Ride in the Central Plains region. If you can't make it to one location, it is being offered again the next day. And if you want to see it more than once you've got three opportunities."
