The upcoming RCAF Gala in Southport is just over three weeks away, and there aren't many tickets left. Captain Mike Houle notes you better move fast if you want one.

"The RCAF Gala on the 23rd of April is being held out at Southport. We have 450 tickets available, and we're down to 25 left. So, we've sold 425 tickets in two weeks. So, we had five places you could've bought tickets. At this point we've consolidated down to just two more source, because there's not many left. So, if you want to get tickets and you were thinking about going, you really need to make that decision quick."

He says military mess dinner tradition will be incorporated into the evening, giving an opportunity to experience what many civilians never see. It's basically a black tie military mess dinner held for the masses.

Houle adds their last gala featured the Jet Stream Band who played all the music you could hear on the radio, and people were disappointed they stopped partway through the night. He says they've made arrangements for that to continue for three to three and a half hours this time.

Portage Rotary member Guy Moffat says there's no tables left in the converted hangar for the event -- just single tickets that'll allow you to mix in with military people and folks from Winnipeg. Moffat outlines the highlights.

"What you can expect. . . there's going to be a bunch of photographers there. There's going to be a red carpet going up to the door, honour guard, they're changing an airport hangar into a gala ballroom essentially. There's going to be four military flight craft in the hangar as well, Airstream Band, a great supper, hors d'oeuvres, cocktail hour ."

Proceeds go toward the Portage Rotary Club. Their last gala raised money that financed the resurfacing of basketball courts at La Verendrye School.
