The Manitoba Liberal leader is promising to give municipalities the money they need to spend on infrastructure if the grits win next month's provincial election. Rana Bokhari says her party will take the one point increase in the PST initiated by the NDP and return it to local governments to help fund local infrastructure projects..

"We have definitely committed to contributing the new 1% PST hike to municipalities on a per capita basis so they do have the funding that they need. It's predictable. It's long term. Had this government given Manitoba municipalities their fair share already, they would have been receiving almost $155 million per year."

She says the plan would continue even after the Liberals roll back the PST to seven per cent in 2023.

Bokhari adds the Liberals respect municipalities' priorities.

"This is specifically for their own priorities. We respect the fact that they have their priorities. And when they're advocating for their fair say, that's that's what they're asking for. They're asking for the ability to move dollars the way they need to do it. They're asking for the ability to plan long term for something that may be different than a provincial or federal priority."
