Shannon Martin will once again represent the residents in Morris constituency.

The incumbent Tory MLA was re-elected in resounding fashion winning by over 5,300 votes and capturing 75.5 per cent of the vote that was part of a conservative wave the crossed the province.

"The only word to describe this is, wow! Our goal was to pick up 10 seats to form a slim majority government, but to see the results are rolling in tonight is history," said Marten.

Marten was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in a by-election in 2014, making this his very first general election. He was asked to compare those two election victories.

"A bi-election is very different from an election. It was thrilling to be part of that, and to be part of an actual general election with all my colleagues, and be part of that larger team. I'm excited to move from the opposition side to the government side. The opposition -- I enjoyed it. It was a terrific two years. It was a great learning experience. Opposition plays a very important role in our parliamentary democracy. I'll have to be honest, I'm not particularly sad leaving that side of the Chamber over to the government side, which apparently is soon to be a pretty crowded side the way things are looking tonight."

When asked if there may be a role for him in cabinet, Marten commented that it was up to the leader to make that decision based on a whole number of factors. He added, he is first and foremost the MLA for the people of Morris constituency but is ready and willing to contribute in any other way possibile.
