Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire says people need to give President-elect Donald Trump a chance to govern.

Trump's inauguration takes place on Friday.

“We don't know what is going to happen. I mean we will have to wait and see. He has promised to change some of the trade rules but I think it has more to do with Mexico."

Maguire says the $2 billion in trade that goes across the border every day is something the incoming President will keep in mind.

“I expect we will see some changes and a big plus for us is he recognizes the need to get the XL pipeline going to move more oil of Canada and into the United States."

Maguire says Canada's government has to avoid reacting to quickly to re-open any trade negotiations like NAFTA. We need to agree that the existing deals are the ones were are working with and until there is a change wait and see what happens south of the border.
