The Progressive Conservative Provincial Government agreed to make major changes to student bursaries at its annual meeting this past weekend. Minister of Education and Training Ian Wishart outlines their decisions.

"We did talk a little about, I know from an educational point of view, Manitoba Scholarship and Bursaries Initiative, as a government, we're trying to more dollars into that. We're also changing the structure a little bit so that it puts more dollars in the hands of deserving students so they can get on with their post-secondary education with more support."

Wishart says they're altering investment percentages as well as private cooperation ratios.

"We're moving from an annual investment of $4.75 to one of $6.75 million a year. But we're changing the ratio from private cooperation in that amount from 1:1 to 2:1. That will generate almost three times as many dollars right there."
