A new pregnancy crisis centre may be coming to Portage la Prairie in the near future.

A group of citizens is trying to get the centre up and running, and spokesperson Mary Loewen says they have an idea of what they want -- they just need to get things formalized.

"We'll need an executive director, probably looking to hire. A board, in order to be a charitable status, or to be incorporated, we need a 3 to 5 member board. We're looking at possibly being affiliated with a group that helps crisis pregnancy clinics get started, and they want at least a 3 member board. So we need a steering committee to see what the need is."

Loewen says the building has been donated by Youth For Christ Portage until a rental agreement can be worked out and everything is ready to open. She's extremely grateful for the help from Youth For Christ.

"Amazing, we're so thankful for them. They're well established, they're well known, they're trusted in our community. So to have their back and their support, to be right next to them, is just such a prime spot for us. And we've been praying specifically for a store front or a place like this for a number of years."

Loewen says they had a great showing from the community last night.

"I'm very thankful. A lot of faithful people that we knew were behind us and supporting us are here, but there are a lot of new faces, too. So very thankful for the turnout."
