There's a Christmas Shoebox on Wheels driving around Portage la Prairie lately. Operation Christmas Child area coordinator Eileen Warthe says the local program received a gifted vehicle they wrapped with a graphic of the Christmas Shoeboxes they ask people to fill for children overseas.

"I call it the Shoebox on Wheels. It was gifted to me. I was at a conference and a lady from Moose Jaw was getting rid of it because her husband felt she needed one that was a bit more reliable. She was an older lady. So, she got a newer car and decided to gift this."

Warthe explains how the idea to put a box on wheels came about.

"I've seen pictures on Facebook and thought this was a really cool idea. When she was going to give it away I thought of having a bunny I once received that I couldn't get rid of, so I called my husband to confirm if it was a good idea. He said okay."

She says things came together as an answer to prayer.

"The neat thing about this is it's taken a while for me to get it licensed. But I had somebody from Austin recently who was able to do the work that needed to be done. That was an answer to prayer because he did it for free. It was able to get safety'ed, so on the weekend I got it licensed."
