The Portage la Prairie Lions Club will hold its tenth live auction on Saturday. Spokesperson Anita Hart says they did twenty years of radio auctions before the live auctions began a decade ago, noting they've had amazing community support for all thirty years. Hart says if the businesses don't donate items each autumn then obviously the Lions would have nothing to offer up for auction, so they're very thankful to everyone who lends a hand. She notes this year they have more than a hundred and ten different items in the auction and the rainbow auction.

Hart says last year they raised over eighteen thousand dollars and adds they'd love to see even more folks come out this time around. She notes people really seem to enjoy the camaraderie and the fact that it does support the community at large, with most of the dollars raised staying right here in Portage and area. Hart adds just last week the Lions were asked to help provide almost one thousand dollars for a special chair to assist a local young man with a medical issue. She says they've made donations to Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Portage swim team, and the CFS Christmas parties, among others. Hart notes there are other community groups which have come and asked for the Lions' support, and if they can help they will gladly do so.

The live auction takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Canadinns, with the doors opening at 6 o'clock. Hart says Dave and Tim Rodgers will once again be the auctioneers, so everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the fun.
