Portage la Prairie's first ever Celebrate the Night took place last night and organizer Yvette Cuthbert hopes the event will become an annual one.

Yvette CuthbertShe explains the inspiration behind bringing the night to Portage.

"I've gone to Culture Days events before in Vancouver and Winnipeg, and Winnipeg especially has Nuit Blanche on Saturday night of Culture Days. Nuit Blanche is night festival kind of thing where there's stuff at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and down in the Exchange District, there are bands on top of roofs, there are light installations and different things; it just really comes alive. It's just a great evening so I thought 'why couldn't we have that in Portage?'"

Some of the attractions at Celebrate the Night included human lanterns placed around the festival site, a glow in the dark hockey game with the PCI Trojans, a glow stick story walk, geo-caching, a shadow theatre, films and slide shows along the sides of buildings, and various entertainment at Convention Corner.

Hundreds of Portagers came out to Celebrate the Night, making the night a success.
