An RCMP car was struck by a train in Portage la Prairie yesterday, police say in a release.

Mounties say no one was in the vehicle at the time of the collision, and there were no injuries to train crew or RCMP officers. At approximately 8 p.m., yesterday, Portage la Prairie RCMP were responding to reports of suspicious people in the area of the old train station on Fisher Ave., in Portage. Officers were following vehicle tracks running behind the train station close to the railroad tracks, which were covered in snow, causing the officer's vehicle to get stuck.

Police say a train hit the vehicle at about 8:35 p.m., forcing it off the tracks and into the old train station, which received minimal damage. The cop car was severely damaged.
