Portage la Prairie's a step closer to a fully accessible playground on 3rd Street Northwest.

The Portage la Prairie Parks Committee successfully applied to be part of a social media competition through the Aviva Community Fund, with $100,000 up for grabs.
Committee Co-chair Debra Hourie calls it a popularity contest, and outlines how you're involved.

"People need to log into the Aviva Community Fund website. The link is posted on the Portage la Prairie Parks Committee FaceBook page, and they need to vote. They can up to 18 times between today, October 11th, and October 28th is when voting closes. Just don't forget to share the link every day, so other people can vote."

Hourie says if they're successful, that money will go toward constructing the playground. She says child will be able to play there.

"That means that anybody, no matter if it's a wheelchair, or they have physical disabilities, can use this playground. We don't want to see kids sitting on benches. This is something Portage doesn't have right now. All the playgrounds have sand or gravel -- some of them don't have ramps. So this is something -- no matter who you are, what your activity level is, what your abilities are -- can use this playground."
