A Portage la Prairie teacher was recognized last month by the Central Region Physical Education Teachers' Society.

Dan Rosset's contribution to the students of Ecole Arthur Meighen School earned him the South Central Manitoba Regional Award.

He calls being nominated for the award, and then winning, humbling, to have your efforts noticed and appreciated.

"It's definitely not myself alone that wins it, is the way I see it, because it's the school together that works. I can't coach five volleyball teams, I need help with that. I need people volunteering and helping out, but I help organize that, and coordinate that, and I guess that's basically what's being recognized. It's the variety of activities that we offer, and the positive experiences that we can offer to our students."

Rosset acknowledges receiving the award leaves a sense of validation, but stresses he doesn't do what he does for that reason.

"I do what I do because I like doing it. I think it's important that we offer the things we do to the students, the variety of activities, and the positive experiences that they can achieve through activity in sport. And that's really the most important thing for me is that we offer those things for those kids."
