There's somewhat of an unknown opportunity available to you if you're interested in art in Portage la Prairie at the Portage and District Arts Centre. Marketing and events coordinator Lee Beaton says it's a program they call Open Studios.

"Open Studios is for PDAC members," Beaton says. "When you buy a membership here at PDAC, not only are you supporting the arts Centre, but the membership gives you 10 percent off off art supplies, as well as discounts on your classes and workshops. But the Open Studio is every Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30."

She notes you can bring in a piece you're working on, sit in the classroom with other artists and share ideas, or seek help from those more experienced. Beaton adds it can just be a time of visiting and talking to artists as well. She explains you might get inspired to create something for yourself after seeing what others bring to the event. Some are regularly meeting every second Wednesday, but it's open every week. Beaton says they'd like to see it grow with more people taking advantage of the opportunity. She adds some come each Wednesday but are hoping others will join them.

"It's really great to watch and see what other artists are doing, and they'll gladly help you," says Beaton. "It's really relaxing and fun to come out. You can get some great feedback on what you're working on."

Beaton notes you don't have to be an artist, and can just come and doodle or chat. You might be inspired to take a class or a workshop.
