There's a sense of optimism in the RM of Grahamdale, as the spring melt continues. Spring flooding was a topic of discussion at the Council's recent meeting, and Reeve Clifford Halaburda says despite some earlier concerns, it doesn't look like they'll be facing a flood situation this year.

"It's been wonderful. We had a bit of water to start a couple of weeks ago, but now with the cold, frosty weather it's held everything back. The water's gone, it looks perfect and couldn't be better."

The municipality saw major flooding in 2011 and 2014, and Halaburda says the situation this year is providing them with a sense of relief.

"It means a big relief for the RM of Grahamdale, because other years, at this time we've been fighting with the water. It's a big relief to all those in the RM."

While relief is one benefit, Halaburda says they're also able to complete some projects which were previously challenging due to the high lake levels on Lake Manitoba.

"We're just finishing off some projects right now, there was a problem during the flood. We should be pretty well completed with most of it this week, if the weather's in our favour. If it's dry and cool we can clean up and have it done."

He says they've also been encouraged by the province's flood updates, noting average lake levels, and satisfactory operation of the Fairford Dam.
