The RM of Portage la Prairie's approved for federal funding to expand the lagoon in Oakville. Reeve Kam Blight says it's just in time.

"There's been lots of development taking place in Oakville in the last couple of years. Basically the lagoon that's in place right now is almost at its maximum capacity. It will be at maximum with the next phase of construction that's taking place here. So, the RM of Portage applied for some funding through one of the federal grants out there."

Blight notes the overall funding's coming from various sources.

"It's a three way partnership between the federal government, the provincial government, and then the municipality has to come up with the third. We're taking the ball and we're running with it. We're going to proceed with expanding our Oakville lagoon. It'll help for any future development that'll be coming down the pipe. There's some room there for the future phase that I know has been planned for out in that area. So, that just means that we can continue to grow. So, we think it's a great thing."
