The town of Oakville held their 125th anniversary celebration yesterday. Co-organizer of the festivities, Alana Miller, describes the turnout of the morning's activities.

"We started with a pancake breakfast at 8 this morning and then there was a bike decorating contest for the children at 9:30. We actually had 22 or 23 participants, which was awesome. Then we moved on to the parade which was at 11:30 and we had 33 floats, so for a small community that was fairly huge."

The festivities continued throughout the day with a hot dog lunch, diverse kids' activities, historical archives from the community, lawn mower races, and a dinner and dance put on by the community and curling clubs, respectively.

Miller explains the importance of the celebration.

"First of all, I would say that to celebrate 125 years for a small community is important. We have a new development and new families moved in so it was nice to do something that would include them. As well as we have kids from other small communities coming to our school, which all take part in our community. So it's just kind of supposed to be a celebration of all of us getting together."

She adds among the new faces in the community there are also many families who have lived in Oakville for three or four generations.
