October 5th was World Teachers' Day and to celebrate, the province of Manitoba wants you to nominate a teacher for an award of excellence. Education and Training Minister Ian Wishart explains education is one of the priorities of the Manitoba government, and they depend on teachers to provide a quality education for students.

He notes it's important to recognize Manitoba's teachers for all they do.

"Everybody has a teacher that they remember that made a significant impact on them and this is your opportunity to make sure that that teacher gets the recognition they deserve."

The Excellence in Education Awards have been around for a number of years, and Wishart explains this year a new award is being introduced.

"There's a very special award, it's the Premier's Award for Excellence in Education. It's certainly recognition of some of the individuals, whether they be teachers or whether they be administrators, that have made significant contributions to education in Manitoba. We think it's really important and it's also going to be presented by the premier."

The deadline for nominations is December 1st. You can nominate a teacher by visiting the Manitoba's Excellence in Education Awards web page.
