Nine-year-old Montana Murray decided to donate 22 inches of her hair to the Central Plains Cancer Services. She explains what inspired her gift for others who are suffering hair loss during their treatments.

"When I was four, my mom showed me a picture of my grandpa, and I asked why he had no hair. My mom explained to me that he had brain cancer. So, when I was four, and after my haircut, I decided to grow out my hair. When I told my mom that I wanted to get my hair cut, she said that she wanted to do this big over the top donation. So, I thought it'd be cool to just do it."

She explains how she'll live up to her word and when.

Montana and her mother Laurie Murray"On the 25th of November. And I'll be doing in front of my grade four class, and another grade four class that I know very well at École Crescentview School."

Her mother Laurie Murray shares how it was a wonder at the beginning, and just became even more special.

"When she was four and decided to save her hair to cut later, it was big deal then. And for her to grow it for so many years, and decide to donate as much as she is, is really amazing to me. At first, we thought it was okay and thought she'd grow it for a year and cut it. When she was six she said she didn't want to cut it yet, but wanted to save it. So, we just kept going. And it was just a couple of weeks ago when she said she was ready to cut it off and donate it. It shocked us that she still wanted to do that. So, I was really proud that she's got so much hair to donate."

Montana wishes to thank all those who donated toward her effort, especially a young girl named Abbey Doerksen.  She adds Abbey's a grade two student at Crescentview and always had a little bag of change of her own money that she donated for the cause.
