The RM of Grahamdale is looking at purchasing a new piece of firefighting equipment. Reeve Clifford Halaburda outlines the purpose of the unit.

"This is a smaller unit for smaller fires. It has been used in the oil spills in Alberta. It's very active. It holds about 450 gallons of water plus it holds a good amount of foam. The foam can be added or it can be both ways but foam is very good for putting out small fires, especially oil fires and grass fires."

He notes there are a few advantages of this piece of equipment, over traditional firefighting equipment.

"It's a lesser expense for one thing. Since it's a self contained unit, you can hook it onto any kind of truck and you can move it to anywhere you want to move it to. You can have it in Moosehorn one day and then tomorrow you can have it 100 kilometres away. That's some of the nice things about it."

Halaburda says they heard a presentation on the equipment at their last meeting, and they plan on adding it to the 2017 budget.
