The Portage and District Arts Centre's new Executive Director experienced his first day in his new position.

Paul Legris was selected out of 20 applicants who applied for the role, and explains why he chose to apply.

"I've worked for a lot of museums in big cities, but always sort of in very specific roles whether it was curatory work, exhibit design work, or some sort of management work. I really miss that opportunity to wear a lot of hats, and to embrace not just the work that happens in the centre, but to be out there communicating with the various people that are connected -- and aren't -- necessarily connected with the organization."

PDAC Board Chair Doug Halmarson says Legris was a stand out among the applicants, and he's excited to start this next chapter at the PDAC.

Legris is looking forward to his new role, and helping the PDAC grow.

"Not just in Portage la Prairie, but throughout Southern Manitoba, and perhaps even beyond. Come up with some ideas, look at some strategic ideas for some fascinating art to continue their tradition of great programming. Develop some new programs, and find ways to expand our message and continue on with the richness and vitality of the centre and see where that takes us."

Legris is looking forward to taking on many different challenges in his new role.
