The Lions' Manor Senior Centre in Stonewall is getting an upgrade.

Mayor Lockie McLean says council met Monday night to finalize the development agreement with a few Lions' chairs, and their lawyer.

"Council unanimously passed the development agreement to allow for the Lions' Manor to move on with this huge, huge project for the town. It's 72 suites and 55+ senior housing, and it's as close as you're going to get to affordable housing for seniors, and it's just going to be a huge asset for Stonewall and the surrounding community."

McLean is confident the Lions Club will have no problem filling all 72 suites.

"The Lions, I'm very proud of them. They're a first-rate organization, and in the late 80's when they first came to Stonewall and put in the first senior housing, they've been progressive and have just continued to add to the housing that's there. They've got their blueprints in place, they've got the template they use, and they'll fill up those suites in no time possible."

McLean shares his reaction on the project.

"Wonderful news. It's something that any community in Manitoba right now would be just overjoyed to have. It's the Lions that are doing it, and they're doing it as a non-profit group. So we're just very thankful to have the Lions in our community, and what they've done for Stonewall and the surrounding community."

The Lions Club is covering the cost of the new 4 story building, and work is already underway.
