Ready, Set, Get dirty.

A mud run is set in Portage la Prairie this fall. The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation's first ever Portage the Prairies Mud Run is set for September 24th at Rotary Republic Park.

PCRC Community Facilitator Victoria Olson explains how the event formed.

"It's going to be right across Southern Manitoba, and we're hoping that all these people come out for this. So we really need community support, whether that's signing up for registration, signing up to be a volunteer, or businesses jumping on board to be a sponsor of this event. Registration opens June 1st, that's early bird registration and that'll be $55, and it goes up $10 every month."

PCRC Fundraising Committee Member Jeff Dubois says, "So what we're doing is we want to get the community behind this event. So as a community you could be a sponsor, you could sponsor or build an obstacle that will be through the 5k mud run, or sign up and partake in the mud run. Enter as a team, it's all about fun, you could wear a costume, your team can come in a uniform costume, or team colour or however you see you want to have fun that day."

Dubois adds they'll have mud pits, things to climb over that will be challenging, and there might even be a slip and slide. "We're also having a DJ, a beer gardens, and there's some work going into the park this summer that will add to our event, and we'll be able to host a very fun day. So after your run you can stay and party."

Olson expects a big crowd, so community support is a must.

"So the fundraising committee got together and we bounced the idea around of creating a run of some sort, and what draws more people than fun. So we came up with the idea of the mud run, and it's evolved from there and took on the name Portage the Prairies. We wanted to make it personal to Portage and really draw a large crowd."

She anticipates a lot of people signing up, and says the opening day for registration June 1st.
