The City of Portage is kicking off the first week of summer by fogging for mosquitoes. This week will be the first time the fogging crew is out on the streets, and City Parks Manager Dave Green explains where they'll be starting.

"Weather permitting, the city is planning on fogging Thursday night, and that area will be the area south of the railway tracks , not including Koko Platz and Mellenville. Monday night, weather permitting, we'll be doing the area north of the railway tracks, as well as Koko Platz, Mellenville and Old Bridge Road."

Green has some suggestions for you if you're concerned about the fog entering your house.

"If you are concerned about the fog, it's a good idea to keep your windows closed and turn off your air conditioners when you hear the machine coming. If you don't want to be fogged, we still honour the No Fog Zones, which is an area of 90 metres around your house. To request to have your home as a no fog zone, you can register with the City of Portage by calling 239-8346 and giving your name, phone number, and address."

Green says the huge amount of rainfall recent around Portage has increased the mosquito population drastically, which is why they decided it was time to start fogging.
