The weekend's heavy rain may put a damper on the plans of local farmers. Craig Finnie at Finnie and Wishart Farms Limited says they had quite a bit of rain near southport, and that may lead to some delays for their planting work.

"It rained quite a bit, on our gauge we had about two inches. It will hold us up, depending on the weather, about ten days likely. It won't be that bad, if we get started by the first of May we're still okay."

Finnie notes they were able to conduct much of their fertilizer work in the fall, and were thinking of starting seeding work this week. He feels as long as we don't see any more heavy rain, they should be in good shape for the season.

"As long as it doesn't rain anymore it's not too serious, but it is pretty wet out there. The water's getting off the fields pretty good, there's a few drains and low spots the water is sitting in, but overall it's going away."

He admits they would have liked to start seeding earlier, but notes this won't be the latest they've been able to get out in the fields.
