Manitoba's Liberals won't be running a full slate of candidates in the current provincial election.

Alison Mitchell with Elections Manitoba says one reason is not getting the proper nomination paperwork filed in time.

"In one case there was an individual who failed to meet the deadline. So, their nomination forms were not filed."

She notes three of the potential candidates also failed to get the proper addresses from people signing their nomination papers.

"For the nomination papers you need signatures of fifty eligible voters in your electoral division along with their residential addresses. So, in some cases were were given either incomplete addresses or post office addresses rather than residential addresses."

Another was disqualified because she'd worked as an enumerator earlier this year.

"There are certain individuals that are disqualified from running as a candidate in any electoral division. One of those disqualifying factors is being an election official or an enumerator. So, it doesn't matter if you worked in one riding and wanted to run in another, she was still disqualified."

This means the ridings with no Liberal candidates are Gimli, Aggasiz, Arthur Virden, Lac du Bonnet and Lakeside.

The new democrats and Progressive Conservatives are running in every constituency across the province. This is the first time in 17 years the provincial Liberals will not run a full slate of 57 candidates.

Other parties running in this election include the Green Party with 31 candidates, the newly formed Manitoba party with 16 and the Communist party with 6.
