A local athlete has some new memories, thanks to the Special Olympics and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Brett Miller won a contest to spend some time with the team at Investors Group Field, getting a behind the scenes look at the organization, while also spending some time with a few of the players. He was awarded the opportunity for his role in the Special Olympic's Bud, Spud, and Boogie Fundraiser, and says he never expected being involved with that initiative would have led to him meeting his favourite team.

Brett Miller throws a pass to Mo Leggett

Miller says it was great to see what goes on off the field at the Bomber's new stadium and laughs as he says his mother and sister were a little red in the face during the tour of the changing rooms. However, he says his main highlight was being able to spend some time on the field itself and even had a chance to score a touchdown.

"They threw me a football, which I caught and I went for a touchdown. In my head, I don't know what I was saying but I was so happy, but as soon as I got the touchdown I was throwing my hands in the air."

He spent a majority of his time with the bombers with Maurice Leggett and Matthias Goossen, even showing off his own athletic abilities with an arm wrestle with Goosen. The excitement of the opportunity wasn't lost on Miller, who's a lifelong Bombers fan, noting he supports the team no matter how they're performing on the field.

"It was awesome (meeting them). They'll always be my favourite team. They'll always be my favourite team. If they're doing awesome, or if they're not having a good season, they'll always be my team."

While he notes the Bombers aren't having the strongest performance this season, Miller says they'll at least beat the Roughriders in the Banjo Bowl. Overall he says it was an awesome experience spending time with the team.
