It's the last day to put in delivery orders for a big bowl of pasta in support of local non-profits.

The annual MGEU Spaghetti Lunch in support of Portage Plains United Way (PPUW) takes place Wednesday at the Herman Prior Centre, but delivery is also available at no extra cost for those who can't make it. PPUW executive director Mandy Dubois says they're relying on this fundraiser to get closer to their annual goal of $247,500.

"It's a huge booster. I think each year, it's close to $5,000 we raise from this event," Dubois says. "We rely heavily on it for our campaign, which means we need the support of the community to come out, buy the tickets and come to Herman Prior for lunch, or contact us to make delivery orders.

Dubois says PPUW is about 30 per cent of the way towards its annual target. But she says it's been slow to this point, and with only two months remaining, she's not feeling as confident about reaching it this year.

"I really hope the community steps up and gets behind United Way, because there really is a ripple effect," explains Dubois. "If we don't make that goal than I have to tell the agencies we didn't make it, and they don't get the funds they need. And then they have to tell the people that use their programs that maybe they're not available this year because that goal wasn't made."

"There's a lot of people relying on us to make this goal," Dubois continues. "We will do whatever we have to do to make it."

There are gluten free and vegetarian options available too, Dubois adds, but they must be pre-ordered even if you're planning on attending the lunch. More information about the event and how to order is available here.
