Oakville's Miller Farms has officially reached Century Farm Status.

Darcy Miller says they're going to throw a party today to celebrate the accomplishments of their ancestors adding there'll be some special guests.

"We're going to have our celebration in our yard. Premier Pallister already announced that he will be attending, as well as Ian Wishart, our local MLA. It's something that we're proud to share with the current government who've awarded us with this Century Farm Status, and invite all of our friends and neighbours over."

Miller explains the details of his families arrival to the area over 100 years ago.

"My great grandfather came to Portage in 1890, bought the land and broke it, then in 1891 they started farming the land. In 1911 my grandfather moved across the road to our current yard site. So my children are the 5th generation that are living on that property."

He says they're celebrating to honour their ancestors.

"We just want to make a party of it. We want to celebrate the achievement of our ancestors for coming to the Oakville area, and we just want to pay tribute to them for starting the ball rolling on all of this. Not just ourselves, but our neighbours around us. (This) speaks to the resiliency, or determination to keep going through the good and the bad years, and we've all experienced those."
