The RM of Grahamdale's Council's still waiting to hear from the government, when it comes to the transfer of lands for the relocation of Little Saskatchewan First Nation. Reeve Clifford Halaburda says the First Nation, which is located at the northern point of Lake St. Martin, is in the process of being relocated to an area just northwest. The move comes after Little Saskatchewan was faced with severe flooding, due to the high water levels on the lake. However, he says not much is known about the transfer, noting they're waiting on the government to approve the transfer of lands.

"What is going to happen is we're losing so many acres of land out of the RM of Grahamdale. We haven't come to a conclusion yet, stating how this is all going to be put together, if there's going to be money exchanged or what. We're hoping it's going to be a good package for all sides, a good deal for Grahamdale, the province, and the federal people."

He says the community's only moving about a mile and a half northwest to higher ground, and says it's unlikely they'd ever see flooding again in their new location. Halaburda's hoping to hear back from the governments soon, but says he's well aware it's a lengthy process.

"I guess the requirements for all that is the federal government has their own policies to do all this. We need to work together, and the story is; everything takes a lot of time."

He anticipates they'll hear more about the situation within the next two months, and possibly see the land exchange formally approved.
