The Lion's Club Christmas Tea Sale yesterday at Lions Manor in Portage la Prairie.

Club Member and Chair of the Lion's Prairie Manor Foundation Murray Graham says a lot of what they had for sale didn't last through the first hour.

"It's a success obviously. It wChrias packed here for the first shift when we started and we've been working ever since. We put out cake, tea and coffee, and of course, cleaning up afterwards. Cleaning up is a big job too."

He says they didn't raise as much as they have in the past, but it was still a good amount.

"We were down a bit as far as dollars go but our crowd was the same. I don't have a full accounting yet because all of our expenses aren't in yet -- and I don't know when we'll get the totals -- but we did deposit about $3,500."

All the people who took in the event.

He outlines how the profits are utilized.

"The money raised here go toward the foundation. All through the year, we meet once a month and we get requests from the Manor's administration about things they may need that the Manitoba Government doesn't supply. We provide the money so they can purchase it."

Graham says it could've just been an anomaly, as they've been on a steady climb for the past 3 years, and they really didn't sell anywhere near as many 50-50 tickets as they did in previous years. He adds it's really a great PR event for the Lions Club and the Manor, and it really gets all their members and residents out and having a good time.
