The Portage Regional Library's summer employee organized a unique event at the library today.

It was a Super Smash Brothers Tournament.

Super Smash Brothers is a video game that takes characters from all sorts of different games and brings them to one place where you can battle with your favourite character. Organizer Alec Finny says this could be a reoccurring event.

"I think this could definitely happen again," says Finny. "We got a good turnout. With more time it would mean more people would come, especially if it became a regular thing people could plan ahead and know they could make it. I know most of these people didn't know each other before this but I've heard some good conversations, it's just been a good day."

He adds that he wanted to put this on so youth and younger adults would have something new to do in Portage. He hopes it continues so the youth have a fun place to be with their friends.

Competitor Tylor Baer has been playing this game for nearly six years, he gives more details on what Super Smash Brothers is.

"It's Nintendo's biggest fight game of all time," says Baer. "Imagine taking a bunch of different toy action figures and just smashing them together and then imagine them ricocheting off each other like a giant sumo wrestling match. That's basically how you can describe the gameplay of Smash (Super Smash Brothers) in a nutshell."

He adds that different characters play differently in the game so to get really good you should probably master how one character plays.

Finny notes people should be on the lookout to see if and when this will happen again. He adds anyone over twelve is welcome whether they consider themselves a master at the game or if they have never played before. He thanks everyone who made this first event successful.
