The Lakeshore school division is gearing up for the new school year. Assistant Superintendent Leanne Peters says they've been prepping for a divisional focus on wellness, noting they're kicking off the fall semester with a professional day on that topic which will include not just teachers but also their support staff, bus drivers, custodians, and secretaries. Peters says the priority is to pay more attention to corporate wellness, so they'll focus on some of the things they can do to have a well workplace for staff and students. She adds they'll cover topics such as healthy cooking, financial literacy, the importance of sleep, and tobacco cessation. Peters says they'll walk through what kind of lifestyle changes they can make which will support folks to be well in the workplace.

She notes another strong focus in their division is literacy, so they'll be holding another professional day for thirty of their teachers to talk about reading apprenticeship. Peters adds this program is designed for the middle years of high school and it supports kids in helping to read in different content areas at higher levels.
