Yesterday's Alzheimer's Walk at Island Park in Portage la Prairie saw a contribution made by Kozy Korner Seniors Incorporated.

They handed over a cheque for Alzheimer's research. President Judy Nagribianko says her reason for being at the Walk is personal.

"I have a dear friend that has Alzheimer's now, and she's living in Lion's Manor, and we're walking for her. We gave a donation of $1000 from our little group. There are about seven members, and there's more than one over there that's got Alzheimer's."

Evelyn Smith was also walking, and joined the cheque presentation. She was walking for an old friend.

"Actually, she was the first RCMP officer to join the service. And her uniform and her box is in our museum here. She was from Ottawa -- the first one that ever joined the RCMP. Her name was Heather."
