With all the recent talk in the community about outdoor skating, fittingly, one rink in Portage la Prairie is ready to welcome skaters.

Koko Platz Community Club has its ice surface installed, and will open for the season tomorrow. Community Club board member Alana Bolton says crews started building the ice surface last weekend, and it looks great. She says everyone's excited to cut into it and get skating.

"Come Thursday, we will have our workers ready for anybody willing to go out and brave the cold, and strap on their skates," she says. "(My whole family's) looking forward to it,

Bolton adds, Koko Platz is one of the last outdoor rinks in the community, and a major asset. It's maintained with floods twice a week, through volunteer efforts.

"Everybody is welcome, we have a lot of people from all over Portage that come."

She notes, there are fees for skating at Koko Platz. It's $40 for a family membership throughout the winter, or $2 per skate. See more information here.
