Arborg's going to be a busy place Tuesday, as about 800 students take to the Arborg-Bifrost Arena. The annual Interlake Career and Job Fair takes place today, providing Interlake's youth, or those returning to the workforce, and opportunity to see their options. Students from Interlake, Lakeshore, and Evergreen school division's will all be taking part in the event, which features 30 exhibitors ranging from agriculture to health care, as well as post-secondary institutions.

Fair Coordinator Beverly Magaway says this is a huge event for Arborg, noting it's typically held in the western area of the Interlake in Ashern. She also notes it's an important event, that could help bolster the Interlake's economy in the future.

"I'm working with the Arborg-Bifrost Community Development Corporation. This event can help the community by making people aware there are existing facilities here in town that can really benefit the youth."

Magaway notes it's often a challenge for smaller communities to retain youth, due to a perception of a lack of options. However, she says the career and job expo aims to move past that myth, by showing youth the options that are available right in their back yard.

"It's making people are these businesses exist here. It's been hard for small communities like Arborg to keep the youth here, you can often hear them saying there's nothing do to here. This is the time to show them there is something they can do here."

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the arena, and is open to the public. Admission for the fair is free.
