The Municipality of West-Interlake's public works crews are doing what they can to improve gravel road conditions in the region. Reeve Randy Helgason says work started late last week, to get the roads ready for graveling in the near future. He says like many other municipalities, West-Interlake's gravel roads aren't in the best shape, due to the weather over the winter months and early spring.

"With the mild winter, the roads were aren't in the best condition. Our operators did a good job in getting ready to gravel them, and to get ready to put down the dust control."

While Helgason says the crews are working with what they have, some roads may need to wait. He notes there are some roads in need of more than just grading and basic repairs, but those projects will need to be approved by council beforehand.

"We have some more work to do on some roads, more than just doing some grading on them. We have them in our plans for the budget."

The municipality's budget has yet to be approved, as they wait on the approval of a borrowing by-law to help manage debt related to flooding in previous years. Helgason says they're hoping to hear back from the province on their borrowing application, to pass their budget in the near future, and start some of the necessary work in the municipality.
