It's going to be hot for the next couple of days in southern Manitoba.

Environment Canada's issued a special weather statement for the area with an extended period of heat and humidity expected to last until Friday. Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Natalie Hasell outlines what can be expected.

"There's a low pressure system down in the States and associated with it is this frontal system, and what we're going to see starting in the southwestern corner of the province -- and for the rest of southern Manitoba starting Wednesday -- is this warm front. So associated with that we're expecting showers and thunderstorms, there might be a few severe thunderstorms in a few spots here or there. We'll have to wait and see."

Hasell says we'll start to see some of the effects today.

"We're looking at a humidex of 33. But for Wednesday, where the temperature is 33, the humidex is going to be at 40 or higher than 40. So that's why the message is sent out, it's to remind you that you need to do stuff about this, or at least have a plan so you can really enjoy this hot weather, but not put yourself at risk."

She adds it's hard to predict when anything will occur, but hot weather is a definite.

"These things change, and right now we're looking at the trigger of the warm front coming in -- and then behind that -- the warm air that is going to be hot and humid until at least until Friday. We know that people really like these hot days, but we also want people to remember they need to take precautions at these times."

Make sure you take all precautions necessary when dealing with the heat.
