A local producer says he's fortunate to be located in a 'sweet spot', as he harvests his crops this year. Arthur North farms south of Austin, and says they're anticipating some pretty strong yields this year. While many producers in the region have experienced challenges with hail and heavy rain falls throughout the summer, North says they're fortunate they're location saw little impact of the severe weather.

"We've been missing all of the hail so far this year. We've been very lucky in our area. The rain has been quite good. I know there are guys that don't want any more moisture, but we've actually been having nice rains. We're in the hills so we can take a lot of water."

He says the topography of their area has been beneficial during most wet years, noting it's the dry periods that really hurt their crops.

With an optimistic outlook for this year's harvest, North is preparing for a busy few months. He says even though they've already taken crop off the field, between other varieties, late crops, and some good deeds, it's looking like a busy few months ahead of him.

"We got the rye off, we're just waiting on some wheat to do. We'll be straight cutting some canola here shortly, and we'll be swathing some at the same time. I've got soybeans too, and they're into late September, early October before they're done. It's an ongoing process, and I'm going to help some neighbours combine too. I'm in it quite a bit throughout the fall."

Overall he's anticipated a good harvest this year, despite some initial concerns over some periods of high wind speeds throughout the summer.
