There are a lot of smiles on the faces of Club Snow members in Portage la Prairie.

The amount of snow we've received in the last month or so makes for great snowmobiling.

Club president Tony McIvor says three-quarters of their trails are open.

"The groomer's trying to run from Wednesday, and have the trails all groomed up by Friday night, so that people can use them on the weekend. The snow has been really great for us. We're hoping to have the rest of the trails open very shortly. There are a few water issues we're dealing with, going north of Portage, so we're not going to open them up until they're safe. So we've been drilling all the ice, and making sure before we do open them."

McIvor adds it's great to have lots of snow to work with.

"And all the bumps are getting filled in. The groomer guys are doing a great job. They're filling in the trail, so it's nice and smooth, and it sure makes a big difference to have the snow to work with. Last year, we were a little short on snow in spots, and we had a few bare spots, but this year is just totally opposite. We've got lots of snow, and everything's looking great, and we're really looking forward to a great snow year this year."

He notes this year's seen an increase in membership as well, which helps with trail maintenance.
